Learn more about the Port

Port Metro Vancouver offers free Port presentations to groups from a Grade 3 level through to post secondary and business groups. Our dynamic presentations are on the history, business, environment or future of the Port . We can also work to tailor a presentation to best suit the needs of your group.

For school groups, we concentrate on two main educational outcomes:

  • Community & Environment

Our early education programming focuses on the community of the Port, B.C. and Canada. We talk about each of our commodities and what province they have come from as well as how they get to the Port. From coal in Alberta to grain in the Prairie Provinces and woodchips in British Columbia, we take students on a journey across Canada by truck and rail that ends at Port Metro Vancouver. For intermediate classes we focus on the environment of the Port. Students get to see the many species of sea life that live in our waters, and gather a greater understanding of what the Port does to ensure that we maintain a healthy eco-system.
  • Trade & Commerce

We also learn about our imported cargo from automobiles and clothing to machinery and electronics; what countries these commodities come from and how importing and exporting together constitute trade.

Please contact us, at least a week in advance of your desired date, to book your presentation at our Interpretive Centre at Canada Place or request for our team to come out to your classroom.
