Transport Canada Launches Round Two of the Marine Shore Power Program
6/5/2009 1:45:03 PM
On June 4, 2009 Transport Canada announced the launch of Round Two of the Government of Canada’s Marine Shore Power Program. This program is designed to help improve air quality by allowing suitably equipped ships to shut down their diesel engines and connect to land-based electrical power while docked.
As part of Round One of the program, Port Metro Vancouver received federal funding which went toward the installation of shore power facilities for cruise ships at the Canada Place cruise terminal. That system is currently in the commissioning phase, and will be operational in mid-June.
