In Your Community

Homeport to the 2010 Winter Games

The port that brings you the goods you use everyday is now connecting you with the 2010 Winter Games. Port Metro Vancouver is an Official Supplier to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

The most visible part of the Port’s sponsorship is the location of the Main Press Centre on the waterfront at Canada Place. From the Main Press Centre, journalists will file stories to a global audience about the athletes and connect the world to the Games.

Port Metro Vancouver is providing port services in-kind, including access to facilities like Canada Place, other port properties as well as support leading up to and during the 2010 Winter Games.

Vancouver is the first oceanside Games since the Oslo 1952 Olympic Winter Games and this partnership marks the first time in Olympic Winter Games history that a port has been named an Official Supplier.

Community engagement

Port Metro Vancouver takes a proactive role in its communities through a dynamic community relations program and generous community giving initiatives. We also work to develop community engagement opportunities that are defined by strong relationships, with a view of building sustainable futures together.

At Port Metro Vancouver we understand and respect the fact that port communities and their leadership want meaningful and ongoing input into the operation and expansion of port facilities and related transportation services.

Port Metro Vancouver’s community engagement approach is based on open two-way communication and meaningful public participation. We work with industry partners, municipalities and the broader community to raise awareness about Port Metro Vancouver, its operations and its impact on the community; build capacity for proactive problem-solving processes and dialogues at the community level; and reach consensus on solutions and future developments that all parties can embrace.
