Port Metro Vancouver will be participating in two upcoming security exercises leading up to the 2010 Winter Games: “Pegasus Guardian III” (October 19-23, 2009) and “Exercise Gold” (November 2-6, 2009).

  • Pegasus Guardian III, led by the Canadian Navy and RCMP, will focus on marine operations at a regional level. This full-scale exercise will see live assets in play, including the Port’s own boat crew, as well as liaison officers in the Olympic Marine Operations Centre (OMOC). Other players include the Vancouver Police Department, US and Canadian Coast Guard and Transport Canada. Activity will be mainly in the Vancouver harbour, as well as the Fraser River near the Richmond Olympic Oval and locations around the Strait of Georgia and False Creek.
  • Exercise Gold, led by the Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit, will be a larger-scale exercise including all levels of government, as well as public and private industry. Sponsored by the Government of Canada, it is the third and final multi-agency exercise designed to test the various safety and security plans for the Games.
