Final Phase of Integrated Transportation Plan Released

1/12/2010 5:36:00 PM

VANOC released the third and final phase of the integrated transportation plan today. The plan outlines details of temporary street closures, planned by the City of Vancouver, for dates around the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

The Olympic and Paralympic Transportation Team (OPTT) released the third and final phase of the integrated transportation plan today. The plan is based on the need to transport athletes, officials and all Games participants safely, reliably and efficiently throughout the region, while also taking into consideration the transportation needs of local residents, businesses and visitors.

The final phase of the plan outlines details of temporary street closures planned in the City of Vancouver for February 10, 12 and 28 and March 12. The closures are necessary to help ensure successful ceremonies where an estimated 100,000 spectators, visitors, reporters, and volunteers will fill the City of Vancouver’s downtown core. For more information about the transportation plan, click here.

Throughout the Games, the Port community is encouraged to plan ahead, allow some extra travel time, and use alternative travel modes for daily commuting, such as walking, use of transit, and carpooling, instead of driving alone. By adjusting our own commuting routines during the Games, we can help alleviate traffic pressures and provide more room for commercial traffic.
