CN rail service status update

October 01, 2009

Port Metro Vancouver continues to assess regularly the operational and community impact of the temporary suspension of CN rail services to container terminals Centerm, Fraser Surrey Docks and Vanterm since July 13.

CN has committed to reinstating rail service to the affected terminals as volumes resume.

Container dwell time continues to be within acceptable operating parameters. CN and the terminals have utilized speed gates and extended gates to mitigate road traffic impacts. Community impacts appear to be minimal.

To ensure continued fluid operations and minimize community impacts, Port Metro Vancouver has informed CN to limit its trucking operations, including licensed third party carriers, to 350 truck trips per day-shift to the port’s south shore access gates for Centerm and Vanterm.

Port Metro Vancouver is working with customers and stakeholders to ensure port competitiveness, service consistency, reliability and choice for Port customers, while minimizing impacts on neighbouring communities.
