Neptune Terminals upgrades | stacker reclaimer

Project status

Permit issued

On January 23, 2013, Port Metro Vancouver issued Neptune Terminals a project permit to install a new stacker reclaimer on its site. Taking into consideration environmental and technical information, as well as municipal, community and First Nations input, Port Metro Vancouver has made an informed decision to approve this project permit. Please read the Input Consideration Memo (below), which helped Port Metro Vancouver make its decision.

About the project

The project will replace an older, smaller reclaimer unit.

This new equipment will be installed within the terminal’s existing footprint and will allow the terminal to improve efficiency and operating flexibility by simultaneously moving steelmaking coal from trains to the stockpiles and directly from stockpiles onto vessels. The new stacker reclaimer will further enhance Neptune’s environmental measures with a best-in-class dust suppression system.

Combined with additional coal handling improvements, this project will take Neptune’s coal handling capabilities up to 18.5 million metric tonnes per year. Approximately one additional train per day and one additional ship per week are expected to call on the terminal following both projects completion.
