Pacific Coast Terminals | Canola Handling Facility Project

Permit issued
On February 28, 2014, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority issued a project permit (PP 2013-104) to Pacific Coast Terminals for the development of a canola handling facility at its existing terminal. Pacific Coast Terminals facilities are under lease with the port authority, and are located in Port Moody. The project permit, including conditions, is available below.
About the project
The canola handling facility involved modifications to existing infrastructure and new equipment. Specific construction activities included:
- storing and handling canola (vegetable) oil
- modifying the existing rail car unloading facility to accommodate canola rail cars
- installing three new tanks (15,000 metric tonnes each) for a total storage capacity of 45,000 metric tonnes
- installing new carbon steel above ground pipe, including interstitially monitored double-walled piping at two sensitive locations: Schoolhouse Creek and dock loading area
- installing 15 steel piles, concrete foundation (slab poured in situ), two dolphins (one mooring, one berthing) and a new oil marine loading arm at berth one
